The 21st Theater Sustainment Command and the 7th Civil Support Command held a three-hour workshop Oct. 2 called “Follow Your Dreams While You Follow the Military” at Armstrong’s Club on Vogelweh.

The free workshop, which was held for 21st TSC and 7th CSC spouses, covered techniques on how to increase one’s joy, focus and energy amidst the challenges of military life through a fun and interactive style.

Stress reduction skills were also taught to workshop participants to increase their strength and resiliency to the constant changes and challenges of the military.

“In three hours we cover the five keys to happiness in life and how you apply those principles in a military life since it is very different from other people,” said Kathie Hightower, one of the workshop presenters. “We also spend a lot of time on how they can open their eyes to possibilities no matter where they’re stationed, no matter if they’re moving all the time. We do a lot of brainstorming to show it’s possible.”

Near the end of the workshop, the participants worked in groups of three to help one another plan their future goals.

Brooke Berthelotte, a workshop participant, said there were many aspects of the workshop she found enjoyable.

“I really like the note card that says ‘How would it be to be married to me?’ I think that it’s an interesting way to put it. It’s something I will do and use. It puts a whole different spin on things that you never really think about,” she said.

Mrs. Hightower partnered with Holly Scherer, another military spouse, to conduct the workshop. Together they have coauthored several columns for magazines and have written a book.
