The first shipment of H1N1 flu vaccine has arrived at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, and initial distribution is scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon on Monday in the Heaton Auditorium at LRMC for high-risk beneficiaries.
This vaccine, manufactured by Novartis and FDA-approved, will be available for 4- to 64-year-olds who receive their health care from LRMC, and who have any of the following medical conditions that place them at a higher risk for influenza-related complications: pregnancy, heart disease, chronic lung disease, kidney or liver disease, metabolic disease, blood disorder, weakened immune system, neuromuscular disorder and neurological disorders.
Individuals will be screened prior to vaccination to verify they are at higher risk.
More H1N1 flu vaccine will arrive in Europe in stages and offered to additional beneficiaries. Announcements will be by local AFN affiliates, garrison newspapers and other media concerning availability for non-uniformed beneficiaries – including DOD employees, contractors and family members.
Army Health Clinic commanders will coordinate with unit and garrison commanders to schedule vaccinations for uniformed personnel.
An H1N1 Vaccine Update Line has been activated at LRMC and offers updated information on vaccine availability and locations. The phone number is 590-4161 or 06371-9464-4161.
