Ramstein hosts annual Christmas market

The city of Ramstein-Miesenbach will celebrate its traditional Christmas market – the Cinnamon and Waffles Market – today, Saturday and Sunday on the local Marktplatz in the center of town.

More than 30 exhibitors including local associations and groups will present their merchandise, serve food specialties and provide a musical program. The local plant nursery has turned the market fountain into an Advent wreath, which is known as the biggest Advent wreath in the Westpfalz.

The event will start with lighting this Advent wreath and musical performances at 7 p.m. today. The local Kolping family will serve Flammkuchen, tarte flambée (similar to pizza). The youth fire brigade will present foods, beverages and woodcarving products. The German Red Cross and helpers of the “Tafel,” an organization that supports needy people with food, will serve cinnamon waffles and glühwein.

Vendors will sell gifts, Christmas decorations, handcrafted angels, candles, knitted items, jewelry and other gift ideas. Glühwein cups shaped like little boots with the Ramstein water tower on it will be available for sale for €2.50.

Santa Claus will make an appearance and pass out gifts to children Saturday and Sunday. The Montessori kindergarten will present a Christmas performance on the stage on Marktplatz 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  The Kaiserslautern Elementary School will send children to perform English Christmas songs at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Children can participate in crafting 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Info-Center of the Westrich Museum.

Several music groups will perform throughout the event.

The Cinnamon and Waffles market will be open 7 to 10 p.m. today, 11 a.m. to

10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Stores will be open until 6 p.m. Saturday.
