Countdown to D-Day – 34 Days

The 37th Troop Carrier Squadron, ancestor of today’s 37th Airlift Squadron at Ramstein AB, transported paratroopers on D-Day and towed gliders, seen in the foreground of this photo with their C-47 Skytrains, seen in the background of this photo. Their “W7” (Whiskey Seven) designator and black-and-white invasion stripes, clearly identifies the aircraft as Allied, and as part of the 37 TCS. The 37 TCS participated in Normandy, Holland, and Germany campaigns (D-Day to V-E Day), in both the European Theater of Operations and in North Africa and Italy in the Mediterranean Theater Operations (1942-1944).
