This year’s Armed Forces Against Drunk Driving top volunteer is Airman 1st Class Benjamin Rongey. Airman Rongey works in the 735th Civil Engineer Squadron
electrical section.
What do you like most about volunteering for AADD?
I love the fact it’s all about the Wingman Concept. I mean, they truly are Airmen taking care of Airmen. AADD’s sole
purpose is to take care of our
military members, and that’s especially important here in a foreign country.
What are some of the best or craziest things you’ve seen as the top volunteer?
I always get along with the person I’m driving home. They’re certainly always extremely grateful.
That’s definitely one of the best things; you can really see that the people we take home are genuinely appreciative of what we do. As for crazy stuff, I imagine as the top volunteer I’ve seen more of it than most. One time I saw a young wife who got sick on her husband while riding in the
back seat of their brand new BMW!
What would you tell potential volunteers who’ve never volunteered before?
I would tell them to definitely try it out. I’ve met some great friends while hanging out at AADD. They’re open every weekend, and they always welcome walk-in
volunteers. Plus, someone always brings “Rock Band” or some movies or hosts a giant card game, so there’s always something to entertain you while you wait. They’re always looking for help.
For more information or to volunteer, ask your squadron AADD representative. If you do not have a
representative, e-mail kmc.aadd@ramstein.af.mil.
