The Air Force recently released guidance regarding how its members wear the Army Combat Uniform.
Battlefield Airmen and air liaison officers are authorized to wear the ACU when deployed to a contingency theater while operating with, attached to or supporting an Army or special operations unit. ACU wear is limited to the trip to and from the deployed theater: Airmen may not wear the Army uniform at home station or during training or exercises conducted away from a contingency theater.
Personnel must wear subdued nametape and U.S. Air Force tapes (five inches in length, worn immediately above and parallel with the top of the slanted chest pocket flaps), modified Gore-tex jacket rank insignia, occupational/aeronautical badges, and flag/shoulder-sleeve insignia. All items will be affixed to the uniform by velcro.
Airmen will wear tan boots and T-shirts. In addition to the Kevlar helmet and appropriate beret, individuals may also wear the same ACU patrol cap, ACU sun hat or micro black fleece cap as the Army unit they are supporting is wearing. For outer garments, individuals may wear parka, cold weather gear, trousers and appropriate BA-issued accessories. When body armor is worn over the ACU, Airmen will affix nametape and modified Gore-tex jacket rank insignia using velcro.
This policy will remain in effect until the new Air Force uniform is available and meets mission requirements. Use of unit/contingency funds is authorized for the purchase of the ACU.
