This year’s “Rheinland-Pfalz Tag,” or Rheinland-Pfalz State Fair, takes place June 11 to 13 in Neustadt along the German Wine Street.
For the 27th time, cities and union communities of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, charity organizations, military forces and aid organizations will participate in the fair to demonstrate who they are and what they have to offer.
Entertaining programs with live music, dance performances, presentations and displays will be offered in 23 event locations with about 350 stands.
“One of our most important wine growing communities will be host to this year’s state fair,” said Kurt Beck, minister president of Rheinland-Pfalz. “Rheinland-Pfalz Tag demonstrates what our state is known for. We expect about 300,000 visitors.”
The fair includes a market of cities and counties featuring arts and crafts stands, tourist information, regional food specialties and wines; a farmers market offering ecological products; activity areas for international military forces and rescue and relief services; and play areas for children.
The state fair will begin at 3 p.m. June 11 with a live concert by the British pop band UB40 on the SWR stage. The minister president will officially open the state fair at 6 p.m. from the RPR 1 stage in front of the train station. Several rock and soul bands will then perform before Christine Stürmer and Glashaus will be part of the RPR1 party night. Other bands and singers presenting various music styles will perform on the other stages until about 12:30 a.m. June 12.
Traditionally, Minister President Beck will sponsor a military youth reception for selected Soldiers and Airmen and members of the German Bundeswehr in the afternoon of the first day of the state fair.
Three Airmen from the 86th Airlift Wing and one each from the 435th Air Ground Operations Wing and 521st Air Mobility Wing Operations Wing will attend. The Army will send three apprentices from their Theater Logistics Support Center-Europe and five Soldiers from the 21st Troop Support Battalion of 21st Theater Sustainment Command.
Neustadt’s official festgrounds (Festwiese) will turn into a military camp, where all participating military forces will present their work and display their equipment.
The Air Force will be represented by several squadrons: the 86th Civil Engineer Squadron will come with a fire truck and Sparky; the 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron will present patient litters with equipment; the 86th Operations Support Squadron will let visitors try on an air crew flight suit equipment; and the 86th and 435th security forces squadrons will be available with a joint weapons display.
The Army will send the 21st TSC to present their apprenticeship program and the 5th Quartermaster riggers to demonstrate rigging operations, parachute packing procedures and airdrop capabilities.
On June 13, entertainment on the stages will start at 11 a.m. with presentations by regional music associations and police orchestras.
The rock formation Night Fever of the U.S. Army in Europe Band will perform a concert at noon on the Rockland Radio stage.
Sunday’s highlight will be the fest parade with about 3,000 participants from 1 to 5 p.m. Every community will take part with either a float, a band or a walking group. The KMC will send the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band.
“I hope a lot of visitors will come to our nice town and take the opportunity to taste our regional wines,” said Lord Mayor Hans Löffler.
