The City of Bad Dürkheim will sponsor its annual “Weinbergnacht,” or vineyard night, today and Saturday. Local vineyards will be immersed in romantic lights and all kinds of colors can be seen across the sky.
Twenty-four local vintners will offer selected wines in illuminated tents. Local caterers and restaurant owners will serve Palatinate food specialties.
The trail of the open-air wine tasting will be 6 kilometers long and pass the renowned vineyards of Michelsberg, Spielberg, Herrenberg and Weilberg. Light artists will illuminate the terraces, the sandstone walls along the trails as well as the window arcs of the Roman villa Weilberg and the Michelskapelle chapel where the Wurstmarkt originated.
A wine pass will be sold as the entrance ticket to the wine tasting. Cost is €19, including the wine glass to taste 15 wines. Children will get free beverages served in free cups, which will be given out when buying the wine pass. Stands will also sell non-alcoholic beverages along the trail; a wine pass is not requested to get there.
Food specialties include a vegetable pasta pan, carrot ginger soup, onion meat with garlic sauce, fire wurst, flammkuchen and crepes.
Visitors arriving by car can park on the Wurstmarktplatz. Here they can buy the wine passes at a box office and find the entrance to the trail. The trails are not lit. It is recommended to bring a flashlight.
Organizers suggest coming by public transportation such as the train. The walk from the train station to the Wurstmarktplatz takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Weinbergnacht will be from 6 to 11 p.m. today and 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
