For the past 10 years, Tony Haynesworth has been campaigning for service members, veterans and their families, to improve the patient-care experience, whether at a Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare organization or military treatment facility. Haynesworth, now assigned as Landstuhl Regional Medical Center’s lead patient advocate, says decades of experience in customer service has led him to one conclusion: communication is key to better outcomes.

U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Sheldrick Long, 86th Maintenance Squadron aerospace propulsion journeyman, polishes a C-130J Super Hercules aircraft part at Ramstein Air Base, Feb. 7. Various parts of the aircraft must be removed during the inspections process to locate faulty parts within the aircraft. The 86th MXS works around the clock to make sure the base’s C-130J’s are maintained and ready to fly at all times.

In 2005, then-Airman 1st Class Hollie McCaleb, an Honor Guard member assigned to Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, was the lead for a detail honoring a soldier killed in action.
