On May 3, 2000, President Clinton approved the establishment of the
Kosovo Campaign Medal to recognize the accomplishments of military
service- members participating in or in direct support of Kosovo
operations within established areas of eligibility.
Fiscal Year 2005 to 2006 was a banner year for the 435th Mission
Support Squadron. The men and women of the 435th MSS were able to
achieve unprecedented results despite a shocking 46 percent manning for
most of the year.
As the senior year for many resident students draws near, one
significant question may be facing those college bound students. What
college is right for me? One possible solution to this daunting
question could be the United States Air Force Academy.
I often observe our aeromedical evacuation squadron, contingency
aeromedical staging facility, and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center
personnel assisting injured servicemembers. As the primary aeromedical
hub for OEF and OIF, several thousand patients were aeromedically
evacuated in and out of Ramstein and I try and visit as many of the
wounded arriving or departing Ramstein as possible.

86th OSS, in control
The 86th Operations Support Squadron was recently awarded the U.S. Air
Force Airfield Operations Complex of the Year award for 2006.
Senior Airman Jason K. Tipler, an Aerial Port Journeyman assigned to
the 86th Air Mobility Squadron in the 86th Contingency Response Group
at Ramstein, never thought he would have to put his combat skills to
use unless he was deployed. However, three weeks ago he did.
Twenty-one Airmen assigned to the 86th Contingency Response Group,
joined by 62 other U.S. Air Forces in Europe Airmen, recently returned
from six different European airfields following their two-week
deployment supporting the President of the United States
Lightning is the leading cause of reportable weather-related aircraft
accidents in the Air Force and consistently among the top four
weather-related killers.
Lightning strikes are possible up to 20 miles from a thunderstorm (avoid the down-wind area of clouds).
