Ramstein C-130s began departing Friday to Akrotiri, Cyprus, delivering
medical supplies, aircraft parts and aerial porters requested by the
U.S. State Department to help American citizens and their family
members depart Lebanon.

Smiles, handshakes and hugs were exchanged as 1,832 Americans and
family members of American citizens transited through Ramstein 
beginning Saturday.

Standing up a flying squadron can be difficult. Standing up an Iraqi
C-130 squadron of aircrew members who have not flown since 1991 and
have no training in the C-130 can be considered a gargantuan challenge.

Construction projects, the economic impact and aircraft noise were all
subjects covered by the Union Community Ramstein-Miesenbach and base
leadership July 10 on Ramstein Air Base.

The U.S. Air Forces Europe Command Center here earned outstanding
results for its performance in the 2006 Joint Chiefs of Staff
Assessment inspection. To commemorate this milestone and thank the team
for its stellar performance, Gen. Tom Hobbins, USAFE commander,
recently presented the COMUSAFE Airmen Committed to Excellence award to
members of the Command Center.
