Airmen deploying in response to Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring
Freedom in Southwest Asia can travel a little lighter now thanks to the
new Expeditionary Theater Distribution Center at Al Udeid Air Base.
The 38th Combat Support Wing stood up in May of 2004 with only five
people and no computers, building furniture or phones. In two years,
it has developed into a 2,900-person wing with a $350 million budget.
Col. Richard Johnston, 86th Airlift Wing and KMC Commander, recently
signed policy letter No. 28 governing tobacco use in the KMC. The
purpose of this policy is to ensure that federal employees and members
of the public are not subject to the harmful effects of secondhand
smoke. Tobacco use is inconsistent with healthy lifestyles, physical
fitness, appropriate military image and ultimate mission readiness.
