***image1***The Fit-in-Lautern running club, the Kaiserslautern Running School (Laufschule) and the city of Kaiserslautern hold the “Second Fit in Lautern Run” Nov. 4. This charity run includes walking, Nordic walking and running of two or 10 kilometers across the world cup route Kaiserslautern.
Meeting and starting location is Schulzentrum Süd (school center south), Im Stadtwald 2, in Kaiserslautern. Kaiserslautern’s Lord Mayor Klaus Weichel will fire the starting pistol at 10 a.m.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Starting fee is €5 for adults and €2.50 for children.
“It would be easier if participants pre-registered at info@lauf-mit-uns.de to avoid waiting times before the start,” said Bianca Merk, who founded the Fit-in- Lautern running club in October 2005.
The Fit-in-Lautern club was established in the Laufschule (running school), the first center for cardiovascular training.
“The club is a group of people who want to combine sports and fun,” said Mrs. Merk. It has 140 members and offers a variety of activities for all ages, men and women, beginners and experienced runners. Qualified instructors teach workshops and support members in running, walking and Nordic walking.
Each participant receives a starting number, which is a ticket for a raffle. Additional tickets can be bought at the site. There is an entertaining program with food, music, dance performances and children’s activities. Prizes will be given to the best teams and if requested, participants receive certificates.
Net profits will go the German Association for the Protection of Children in Kaiserslautern/Kusel to finance a workshop where children can learn a variety of handicrafts after school.
“We also offer to let those latchkey children join our club for free and to keep them busy with sports,” said Mrs. Merk.
Last year, 650 people participated and €5,100 was donated to the Rheinland-Pfalz Cancer Association.
