The disposal ceremony, conducted to give proper respect to flags during their disposal, invited participants and audiences to take a moment of appreciation for the pride and heritage the U.S. flag carries. Ramstein personnel who are members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., American Legion, Kaiserslautern Military Community Masonic Organizations, and Boy Scouts of America joined to lay U.S. flags to rest during a Flag Day flag disposal ceremony, marking the first time these four organizations had conducted such a ceremony on Ramstein in four years. A Cub Scouts of America leader respectfully disposes of a U.S. flag during a Flag Day flag disposal ceremony June 14 on Ramstein. The ceremony was conducted in accordance with the United States Flag Code which states: “The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Children of Ramstein personnel who are members of the Boy Scouts of America and Cub Scouts of America salute burning U.S. flags during a Flag Day flag disposal ceremony June 14 on Ramstein.
