***image1*** Those “in the know” here are very familiar with the U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern’s Community Information Forum held at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of almost every month at the Armstrong Community Club on Vogelweh Housing.

“It’s a great place to get the ‘inside scoop,’” said Emma Vinson, the garrison’s Headquarters, Headquarters Detachment Family Readiness Group leader, who goes to the forum every chance she gets and passes the information to her group’s members.

The forum is open to the public from all military branches and provides information on various programs, agencies and organizations within the KMC. Unit commanders and FRG leaders receive a special invitation to attend, said Ute Nickstadt, the garrison’s CIF coordinator.

Something special for Soldiers and their families will be added to the next forum – the Army Family Covenant Town Hall Meeting. In fact, the Army Family Covenant proclamation will be signed by commanders and command sergeant majors of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command and garrison 1 p.m. Nov. 7 at the CIF in the Armstrong Community Club.

“We are enlightening and enriching individuals attending the town hall meeting and CIF to let them know exactly what the Army Family Covenant is all about and what our approach here in the KMC is going to be,” said Elaine Leist, the garrison’s deputy commander.

The Army Family Covenant provides Soldiers and their families a quality of life equal to their service to their country. This includes increasing accessible and affordable health care, improving housing, assuring excellent education, youth services and child care, and expanding education and employment opportunities.

Called “Boots on the Ground,” the U.S. Army is making a commitment to build a partnership with Army Families, said Mrs. Leist. She added that the Army is committed to providing families with a strong, supportive environment where they can thrive.

To recognize this commitment, senior mission command and garrison leadership in each Army community will sign a proclamation.  The Army Family Covenant proclamation will be signed here by commanders and command sergeant majors of the 21st TSC garrison.

Family Readiness Group leadership are invited to attend the signing, and the public is encouraged to learn more about the Army Family Covenant at the town hall meeting as apart of the November CIF, said Mrs. Leist.

Other topics at the November CIF include the Army Community Service’s outreach program, and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service’s holiday events. There will also be briefs on the 2008 Combined Federal Campaign and Army Family Action Plan.  The introduction of the new Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe principals will continue at this forum with the Kaiserslautern American Elementary School principal, Frank Simone.

The forum is generally held every month, except for July due to the Independence Day holiday. For more information on CIF, call Ms. Nickstadt at 489-8279 or 0631-536-8279 or e-mail ute.ln.nickstadt@eur.army.mil.
