Recently there was construction to build a road through the dental clinic staff and patient parking area so there would be two-way traffic to the 24-hour Shoppette. Now that the road through the dental clinic parking lot connects to the Shoppette, people tend not to use common sense since there is no posted speed limit. This parking lot is used by the dental clinic staff and patients. I feel that cars are entering the road and parking lot at unsafe speeds that could lead to an accident or injury to pedestrians. The entrance to the base exchange parking lot has posted speed signs and speed bumps. I was just wondering if anything can be done to help by either posting a speed limit sign or speed bumps.
Response:
Thank you for raising this concern. The speed limit in parking lots is 15 kilometers per hour unless otherwise posted. This is stipulated in the KMC instructions and therefore it is generally not posted. However, because there is an increase in through traffic, civil engineers will post speed limit signs on all entrances to this parking area. We will consider speed bumps if this does not resolve the problem.
