Commander’s Action Line

***image1***Q: I enjoy the ability to listen to the AFN radio station via the IPTV viewer during the duty day. It keeps me informed on the events happening within the KMC without distracting my coworkers or myself from my duties. That is whenever the reception is good. Unfortunately, the reception is not good (and is quite frankly, poor) the majority of the time. I have used the Network Help Desk in the past, in an attempt to have the problem rectified, but there has been no lasting fix as of yet. Is there something that can be done to provide first-rate service for this useful command-notification tool?

A: Thank you for sharing your IPTV performance concerns. We were able to adjust the FM antenna and restore the analog signal quality. However, previous adjustments have not lasted; therefore, we will purchase another AFN decoder and change our configuration from an analog (over-the-air) signal to a digital signal. We expect the conversion to be complete by June 1, and expect it will provide a noticeable improvement.

IPTV is a great product and has served us well for almost six years; it has unfortunately reached the end of its life-cycle and is no longer supported by Cisco. The good news is testing has now started at Spangdahlem Air Base on a replacement system. The system being tested will provide a greater level of service and more capability. If the test is successful at Spangdahlem, the system will be funded and implemented at Ramstein.

The Commander’s Action Line gives KMC members a direct link to wing leadership.  The action line is a way for KMC members to ask a question or express a concern on the policies and procedures of the base, as well as discuss safety and security issues.  To submit an action line, e-mail editor@kaiserslauternamerican.com with “Action Line” as the subject.
