Q: Has a utilization study been conducted to justify the current hours of KMC post offices? It doesn’t seem logical that it remains open for the longer hours on Saturday if it isn’t utilized enough. With the post office closed on Mondays, Tuesday becomes a real ordeal to procure services. Patrons sometimes have a wait time of 30 minutes or more. Delivery of mail seems to take longer than it did with the previous hours.
A: We recognize that our postal service is one of our top customer service interest items in the KMC and is a morale booster for all of us and our families. KMC Air Force Post Offices are in the process of modifying their hours and days of operation based on customer feedback. Thus, the finance window hours of operation will change from the current Tuesday through Saturday back to Monday through Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and continue parcel pick-up window service hours of Monday through Friday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ramstein north and south post offices. We believe the new change provides the maximum benefit to the customer and will decrease wait times. We also have a post office located on Kapaun and Sembach that we can utilize to mail out packages. We give a heartfelt thank-you to all the volunteers, groups, organizations, clubs, spouses and units for donating time to help at the post office. To volunteer, call 480-2889 or stop by the post office customer service window.
Q: Is there any plan to build a bike path along “golf course road” between the Ramstein East Gate and Mackenbach?
A: An excellent question … we are aware that numerous bikers utilize this road on a regular basis and a bike path would ensure the safest route. Unfortunately, Mackenbachstrasse, or L369, is a German road and the State Mobility Office has determined that this road is not wide enough to accommodate a safe bicycle path.
