QI am a frequent user of the aerobic classes offered at the fitness centers. I recently heard the aerobic class schedule is being changed, to include the cancellation of all classes at both Vogelweh and Sembach and the implementation of fee-based classes on Ramstein. What happened to the funding that has traditionally been provided to the JFIT professional trainers? How are patrons being notified of this significant change in service? How was the price for the fee-based classes developed?
A Thank you for giving me the opportunity to address your fitness concern as I know it has a large impact for our mission and our customers.
We did have to make some adjustments to our classes led by JFIT professional trainers due to large budget cuts for this fiscal year. But I am proud of the work our Services have done to mitigate these cuts. As a result of their innovative work, we are not canceling the group exercise classes at any of our KMC fitness centers. In fact, our group exercise class schedule will increase by 64 percent at all of our facilities thanks to fitness center staff members, as well as American Red Cross volunteers that teach many of our indoor cycling classes. Many of our fitness center Airmen will now be leading these classes.
As of Oct. 1, we now offer 38 different types of free classes, including several levels of circuit training, abdominals and even some new innovative hybrid classes that encompass indoor cycling and circuit training. Other classes like yoga, turbokick and pilates will also be offered through JFIT at Ramstein’s Southside Fitness Center on a pay-as-you-go basis. JFIT is offering these classes for $8 on a drop-in basis or a punch card service of eight classes for $45, which is within line of industry standards. JFIT is also evaluating the possibility of offering these types of classes at the other fitness centers in the near future.
I hope that the new expanded group exercise schedule is able to meet your needs as well as those of all 240,000 yearly fitness center customers. Our goal is for the KMC to be the “Fitness Capital” for all USAFE.
The Commander’s Action Line gives KMC members a direct link to wing leadership and is a way for KMC members to ask a question or express a concern on the policies and procedures of the base, as well as discuss safety and security issues.
