***image1***The KMC is part of another community, the Kaiserslautern County union communities where thousands of you live, shop and eat. The largest union community is Ramstein-Miesenbach.
This community, established in 1971, consists of approximately 19,000 inhabitants and includes the villages of Hütschenhausen, Kottweiler-Schwanden, Niedermohr and Steinwenden. The community’s mayor is Klaus Layes.
Ramstein-Miesenbach was first mentioned in a document in June 12, 1215, and Miesenbach was mentioned in 1255. By 1684, there were nine families living in the community which grew to about 2,000 people in 1900. The community started to rapidly grow with the construction of the air base in 1951.
Today the community is bustling with the Haus des Bürgers cultural and conference center, Azur Water World pool, restaurants, hotels and museum displays of local history and traveling exhibitions. The community also offers a variety of leisure activities such as hiking, biking, tennis, horse riding and swimming. The community’s largest employer is Ramstein Air Base.
Be sure to visit the Ramstein-Miesenbach annual farmers’ market Sunday starting at 11 a.m. in Ramstein’s city center. Local stores will be open Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.
