Landstuhl Regional Medical Center

This year, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center is celebrating 65 years of safe, quality care to our Armed Forces, retired service members, federal civilians and family members, as well as our valued partnerships with host nation organizations who have significantly contributed to the health and well-being of our patients.

Anyone with base access is invited to attend the LRMC 65th Anniversary Open House Oct. 3 from 8.m. to 5 p.m., proudly hosted by Maj. Gen. (Ret.) David Rubenstein (LRMC Commander, 2001-2003) and Col. Timothy Hudson (LRMC Commander, 2017-Present).

A short opening ceremony and cake cutting will kick off the event at 8 a.m. in the Hilltop Cafe Dining Facility. Additional activities will be held in the Heaton Auditorium and outside of the LRMC Chapel, including realistic medical simulations, historical hospital displays, military aircraft and vehicles on display, information booths hosted by LRMC staff and community organizations, entertainment and light refreshments.

Tours in the afternoon will be offered in English and German and the first tour group will gather at 2:15 p.m.

The LRMC leadership also invited German Local Nationals from the surrounding communities through German language media. Although the registration has ended for those without base access, the hospital team is looking forward to meeting those who previously registered for the event.

About Landstuhl Regional Medical Center

As the sole U.S. medical center overseas and the U.S. military’s medical evacuation center, LRMC’s primary role of critical combat care is to either treat and remedy patients’ medical concerns and return them to their units, or stabilize and transfer them to another facility for further care.

With a 99 percent survival rate, the LRMC team has successfully treated more than 97,000 wounded, injured and ill U.S. troops and Coalition Forces from 56 countries who were aeromedically evacuated from throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Strategically located near Ramstein Air Base, LRMC is the largest American medical facility outside the United States and the only American College of Surgeons verified Level III Trauma Center overseas and maintains strong partnerships with Level I trauma centers in the local German community.

The Army-commanded medical center and its six additional clinics in Germany, Italy and Belgium are jointly staffed by more than 2500 dedicated professionals, including 1,042 Army, more than 269 Air Force, 891 Department of the Army civilians, 336 Local Nationals, as well as Marine Corps, Navy and Veterans Affairs. This team cares for more than 205,000 beneficiaries living and working throughout Europe.

The facility offers 53 medical specialties, houses 65 beds and averages more than 52,000 outpatient visits per month. An average daily workload includes 16 inpatient admissions, 26 operating room cases and 2 births.

The original 1,000 bed hospital was dedicated April 7, 1953, and was previously known as the 320th General Hospital, the 2nd General Hospital and the Landstuhl Army Medical Center throughout the years until it was officially named Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in 1994.

Although a new facility is currently under construction closer to Ramstein Air Base, patients can always count on selfless service from doctors, nurses, medics, technicians, administrators and support staff who will continue be the “heart and soul” of the new facility.
