Kaiserslautern’s lord mayor, Dr. Klaus Weichel, will officially open the annual Volkspark concert series Sunday. The Music Association Leimersheim will present the opening concert at 11 a.m. under the motto “A colored bouquet of brass music.”
Every other Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., concerts will take place in the blue music pavilion in Volkspark next to the duck pond.
“We’ll keep a high quality of concerts and hope to be able to inspire many visitors,” said Volker Hess, chief of the project office for city events. All nine concerts will be free.
A symphonic brass orchestra, the Kolpingorchester Kaiserslautern, will show off 100 years of making music together during its anniversary concert June 3. Sixty-four musicians from each age group will play to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
“Oldies but Goldies” will be the motto of the Alsenz Music Associaiton June 17. About 22 musicians from the most northern part of the Donnersberg area will present its manifold repertory.
The Music Association Hochseid Reichenbrunn will play “Three-Star-Music from the Saarland” July 1. Since 1965, the orchestra has been taking part in national and international contests.
For the halftime of the concert series July 15, the Niederkirchen Music Club will play modern dance and light music. An ecumenical worship service is scheduled from noon to 12:30 p.m.
The Kienholz Musicians will show off the “whole world of brass music” July 29.
Twenty-eight musicians have developed their own style with swinging brass music, big band sound, and rock and pop.
The West Palatinate Brass Orchestra, the Musikverein Otterbach, will take visitors on a musical journey with emotional music Aug. 12. Director Robert Schmitt and his band will show a wide range of modern brass music, including swing, rock, pop, musical pieces, symphonies, polkas and marching music.
The Music Association Erzhausen will surprise the audience with “Swing for Fun” Aug. 26. The big band was founded in 1996 and consists of 18 musicians with a stable basis for soloists. Songs of renowned jazz musicians will complete the band’s
repertory.
The final Volkspark concert will be under the motto “Good entertainment with traditional and modern brass music.” The Musikverein 1929/53 Mechtersheim will close out the season from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 9
“During each concert, a bistro in Volkspark serves little snacks and cool beverages,” Hess said. “And next to the music pavilion is an adventure playground for children so they don’t get bored.”
Volkspark and its duck pond are located on the corner of Donnersberger and Entersweiler Strasse (next to the public swimming pool Warmfreibad).
