***image1***The annual “Culture Market before Christmas” takes place Nov. 27 through Dec. 12 at historical Fruchthalle in Kaiserslautern. The event features about 50 vendors from throughout the world, workshops and an entertaining program.
“We have exhibitors presenting hand-woven rugs, bright pillows, current fashion, fine leather bags, special ceramics and glass objects, designer furniture, jewelry, toys, Christmas decorations and art and craft items from Africa, Asia and South America,” said Leyla Mehrmann from the Kaiserslautern Cultural Office. “This is the right place to do Christmas shopping, especially if it’s cold and snowy outside,” Ms. Mehrmann added.
Two cafés offer beverages, snacks, cakes and coffee, when customers need a break.
Deputy Mayor Dr. Arne Oeckinghaus officially opens the culture market at 1 p.m. Nov. 27. The group Zetra Nova will perform Christmas songs on a zither before children from a local high school present Russian songs and dances. Belly dancing will close out the opening program.
A daily musical program is available to include the Barbershop Choir at 6 p.m. Dec. 8.
Dance presentations feature an Irish Dance at 5 p.m. Dec. 7 and Balinesian dances at 2:30 and 4 p.m. Dec. 12.
“Parents who want to take their time to look around can drop off their children and have them supervised in the kids’ play room from 2 to 7 p.m. each day,” said Ms. Mehrmann.
The culture market is open from 1 to 7 p.m. daily. The Fruchthalle is located across from the Pfalztheater and next to the soldiers’ war memorial on Fruchthallstrasse.
