Deadline for taxes July 15, Ramstein Tax Center continues assistance

Though the normal deadline for filing taxes is April 15, the Internal Revenue Service has postponed most federal income tax payment and filing deadlines until July 15.

According to the IRS website (www.irs.gov), the postponements are automatic so there is no need to request an extension unless you will be unable to file by the new deadline.

Most states have followed the lead of the federal government and have adjusted their filing deadlines as well. Currently, eight states are not using the federal deadline. These states include:

  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • Nebraska
  • North Carolina
  • Virginia

If you are required to file in one of those states, please look up the filing deadlines on their respective state tax websites as some of the filing deadlines are approaching rapidly. Additionally, each state has different rules on whether they will charge interest fees and penalties for late filings.

The Ramstein Tax Center will remain open, by appointment only, through July. Tax services are available to military personnel and DOD civilians. To request an appointment or assistance, call DSN 314-480-1040 or 06371-47-1040. The office can also be reached via e-mail at 86AW.JAC.LegalAssistance@us.af.mil.
