More than 70 farmers and vendors will present their products and items at the traditional Hitscherhof Farm Fest, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Regional farmers will offer fresh agricultural products such as fruit, vegetables, potatoes, meat, cheese, wurst, bread, noodles, wine and juices.
“We also have food vendors selling items from the region and from throughout the world,” said organizer Daniel Fischer. “There are nuts, spices, salami from France and Italy, mustard, vinegar, various unique oils, cigars from all over the world, chocolate from Belgium, Spain and Austria as well as whisky from Scotland, Ireland, the United States and Germany.”
The annual event will also feature a creative market with arts and crafts vendors
displaying a variety of items such as lamps, vases, dishes, jewelry, pottery, paintings, table cloths, teddy bears, dolls, ceramic items, wood carvings, nativity scenes, candles, garden accessories, music instruments, dried flowers, baskets, postcards and antique furniture.
“We are also making sure that visitors won’t be hungry and can taste various products,” Mr. Fischer said. “We’ll serve new wine with Flammkuchen, Schwenksteaks, Bratwurst, salads, corn on the cob and pumpkin soup. For
dessert, we’ll have waffles and cakes to include four kinds of pumpkin cakes.”
Children can enjoy a walk through the corn maze or climb a straw castle.
The farm will be decorated with 50 different breeds of pumpkins. Items made of pumpkins will also be available for tasting and buying: pumpkin marmalade, pumpkinseed oil, pumpkin cookies and pumpkinseed lard.
“Like in recent years, we’ll present giant pumpkins again,” Mr. Fischer said. “We try to break last year’s record of 400 kilograms, which one pumpkin was weighing.”
