One of the great ways to explore Germany and the rest of Europe this time of the year is outdoors, and the 86th Force Support Squadron’s award-winning Outdoor Recreation Center is here to help you get going.
Ramstein’s Outdooor Recreation Center (often called “Outdoor Rec” for short) was recently named the U.S. Air Forces in Europe/Air Forces Africa Outdoor Recreation Program of the Year, and for good reason. Outdoor Rec offers a number of great services to the KMC, including trips and tours, a repair shop, retail store, rental service, and the popular climbing wall.
Outdoor Rec, located on the first floor of the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center near lodging, offers great trips and tours at great prices year-round. From the Mosel River bike ride in the summer months to the indoor ski trip during the winter months, Outdoor Rec has something for everyone who wants to get out and explore.
In addition, Outdoor Rec has a great repair shop that will keep your bicycle in riding condition during the warmer months and your ski and snowboard equipment slope-ready during the colder months.
Still looking for the perfect pair of hiking boots, ski or snowboard equipment, or running shoes? Look no further than Outdoor Rec’s retail store, which features top brands at reasonable prices. Running enthusiasts, take note! Outdoor Rec offers a bio-mechanical footware system that will ensure you have the proper running shoes for your feet. The test is done by trained technicians and takes 30 minutes to complete with a scheduled appointment.
If you’re still deciding which outdoor adventure and equipment are best for your family and you, check out Outdoor Rec’s extensive rental service, which makes a full line of camping equipment, bikes, skis, snowboards and other sports equipment available to the KMC. Planning a party soon? Outdoor Rec can help with that, too! The facility rents out festival equipment, tables, benches and canopy tents.
Last, but not least, there is the always-popular Outdoor Rec climbing wall. If you haven’t been up the wall yet, what are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present. Start with the climbing wall basics class, which is taught by trained staff members. The lessons include how to use a belay device, how to properly tie climbing knots and instruction on safe belay techniques. Outdoor Rec also offers classes for more experienced climbers.
The 86th FSS award-winning Outdoor Recreation has so much to offer during any season. Visit Outdoor Rec in the KMCC today or contact them at 480-5707 or 06371-47-5707 to start your adventure.
