For Silvia Mutterle, the first four months of the fiscal year have been very rewarding.
Ms. Mutterle was honored as the Civilian of the Quarter by Maj. Gen. Patricia McQuistion, 21st Theater Sustainment Command commanding general, Feb. 3
during a ceremony at the 266th Financial Management Center on Kleber Kaserne.
“If I were to use one word to describe it, it would be ‘overwhelming,’” Ms. Mutterle said. “I don’t do it for awards. I do it because it’s what I’m supposed to be doing.”
What she has done is work as an accounting technician with the Italy Finance Office in Vicenza for seven years. She also took on additional duties when her unit,
E Detachment, 106th Finance Company, deployed.
“We had 17 Soldiers who deployed, so we had to move some civilians in and cross train them,” said Capt. Amanda Miller, commander of E Detachment, 106th Finance Co., who has known Ms. Mutterle for four years.
Ms. Mutterle helped train the civilians brought in to replace the deployed Soldiers in addition to completing her regular duties and filling in at the cashier’s cage.
“It was very well deserved,” said Captain Miller about Ms. Mutterle’s nomination for Civilian of the Quarter. “I am so glad they are recognizing her for her hard work.”
Ms. Mutterle was also integral in helping distribute the new Eagle Cash cards that Soldiers must use downrange in lieu of debit cards or cash. Her office distributed 1,800 cards in Germany and 2,000 cards in Italy to deploying Soldiers.
Ms. Mutterle was nominated for the award by her supervisor, Juan Lomax, a finance and accounting officer at 266th FMC.
“I recognized that her attitude toward work is fabulous,” he said. “She has a can do attitude. She can accomplish anything that I task her with.”
In addition to her duties at the Italy finance office, she is a single parent with two daughters and has an interesting hobby training falcons and owls, which she says helps to center her and is a way to spend time by herself and relax.
