Now that the weather has gotten colder, it’s becoming more common to see personnel wearing the stocking cap while in uniform. Unfortunately, it’s also not uncommon to see people wearing it incorrectly. The U.S. Air Forces in Europe supplement to AFI 36-2903 authorizes wear of the stocking cap during inclement weather throughout the installation, and while traveling to and from base. However, it is not to be worn on stops off-base when you must exit the vehicle. Also, the cap may only be worn when a flight jacket, leather A-2 flying jacket, Gore-tex parka or BDU is worn. It may not be worn rolled up on top of the head, and the seam of the cap must rest on the crown of the head.
