Personal grooming standards
Personal grooming standards in AFI 36-2903 authorize women to wear braids, micro-braids and cornrows in their hair.
However, they must be solid in color, similar to the individual’s hair color, conservative and not present a faddish appearance.
The AFI also allows for the wear of conservative hairpins, combs, headbands, elastic bands and barrettes. Hairpins and bands must match the hair color. Hair must not exceed three inches in bulk, nor extend below the bottom edge of the shirt collar. Additionally, it must not interfere with proper wear of headgear.
