Women’s hairstyles: minimum length standards
We hear a lot about the maximum length and bulk permitted for women’s hair, but did you know that there are also minimum length standards?
According to AFI 36-2903, women may not have shaved heads, military high-and-tight, or flat top haircuts. The AFI specifies that the minimum length/bulk required for women is one inch. Hair shaved on the sides and back of the head, or cut on top of the head to less than one inch in bulk does not comply with Air Force standards. Medical waivers are necessary for situations that require baldness as a medical necessity while in uniform.
