Football camp brings NCAA coaches to kMC

The Kaiserslautern High School Booster Club is hosting a Youth Tackle Football Camp for ages 14 through 18 from June 19 to 22 at the athletic field next to the fitness center and the soccer field on Miesau.

This is an excellent learning opportunity for any athlete who wants to play football to enhance their skills. This camp is being conducted to reduce the cost to families who ordinarily would pay the expense to return to the states and pay the cost of the camp and airfare. We have outstanding athletes who go unnoticed during their tenure in Europe.

Coaches are coming from each division within the NCAA. This will allow our athletes to be seen by each level of college football within the NCAA. The camp is designed to be instructed by individual position. There will be coaches for quarterbacks, running backs, offensive linemen, receivers, defensive linemen, linebackers and defensive backs.

Coach John Shannon, Marshall University offensive coordinator, will be the director of the camp and the quarterbacks’ coach during the camp. The Arizona Cardinals’ Coach Rick Courtright will be the defensive backs’ coach during the camp.

Other coaches attending are Justin Shannon, Tennessee Tech linebacker coach; Andy Waddle, Wittenberg University in Ohio defensive coordinator/linebacker coach; and Edgar Weiser, Cumberland College in Kentucky offensive coordinator/offensive line coach.

The athletes attending this camp will be evaluated by the coaches who will then complete individual evaluations and keep them on file. When a player applies to a college and wants to play football, the athlete can state that they attended the camp and indicate which coach they worked with during the camp. The college coach for the university they applied will then contact the coaches from the camp for their evaluation.

This camp will give players a greater understanding of the game of football. The players will see and learn the techniques that these coaches use at the college level. Additionally, they will learn about proper conditioning and nutrition.  They will be able to take back agility drills to work on in their preparation for their next football season.

Currently there are players registered for this camp from Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, England and Germany.

The camp costs $300 for resident campers and $270 for non-resident campers and must be postmarked before June 19.

All forms required for registration are located online along with the camp agenda and required items to bring to the camp. To register for the camp, visit http://khsboosterclub.org/6.html
