Lichtenberg Castle near Kusel is the stage for an herbal market 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday. Visitors can learn everything about herbs, including herbs in pots, decorations, oils, garden ceramics and literature.
Guided tours through the medieval herbs garden at the castle and hikes to get to know the wild herbs around the castle are offered at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. Those who want to learn about wild herbs can participate in a hike around the castle at 10 a.m.
Stands are set up for visitors to learn how to use the common garden herbs, how they grow and how they are used for food, drinking specialties, in houses and for wellness and health.
There are cooking shows and demonstrations on how to plant herbs in backyards and keep away any pests.
Vendors sell plants, literature, decorations, soaps, schnaps and liquor made of herbs, tea, oil, vinegar, marmelade and garden and house ceramics.
Cooks of the culinary county road and the Kusel Butcher Guild hold a cooking demonstration at 3:30 p.m. They prepare food specialties with herbs such as bratwurst and the musicians’ county steaks.
There is musical entertainment and a petting zoo. Visitors participating in a stand rallye can win an overnight for two people in the tower room of Lichtenberg Castle.
The two museums in the castle – the Musicians’ County Museum and Geoskop, the primeval world museum – offer reduced entry fees for adults. Children are admitted free.
Tickets to the event cost €1 for adults; children under 12 are free.
