Kaiserslautern takes first
K-Town took first edging Ramstein,76-69, May 20 and Saturday in Wiesbaden.
The following athletes placed in the top five of their events:
Lynndsy Hyter – first in 300 meter hurdles; second in the 200-meter dash, long jump and triple jump
Dekia Moore – second in discus; third in shot put
Laneesha Moore – fifth in triple jump
Teena Robinson – fourth in high jump
The 4×100 and 4×400 meter medley teams won third and the 1,600-meter sprint medley team won fifth.
Ramstein takes second
Ramstein took second with 69 points.

Krissy Grosselin – third in the 800-meter run and long jump
Lorraine Tucker – second in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter run
The 4×800 meter medley team won first, the 4×100 and 4×400 meter medley teams won second and the 1,600-meter sprint medley team won fourth.

Ramstein wins first
The Royals stomped the competition during Europeans beating Heidelberg 95-69 May 20 and Saturday in Wiesbaden.
The following athletes placed in the top five of their events:
Parker Cowles – fourth in the 1,500-meter run
Danny Edwards – first in the 3,000-meter run; second in the 1,500-meter run
Ben Eller – fifth in the 800-meter run
James Hamlett – first in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run; fifth in the 1,500-meter run
Noah Sheppard – third in the 3,000-meter run
Marquiston Showers – second in the long jump; fourth in the triple jump
The 4×400 meter medley and 1,600-meter sprint medley teams won first and the 4×800 meter medley team won second.
Kaiserslautern takes fourth
The Raiders barely lost to Heidelberg, 69-68, to win fourth.
The following athletes placed in the top five of their events:
Jamal Anene – third in the 800-meter run
Brandon Berry – fourth in the 400-meter dash
Steve Burnett –fourth in the 3,000-meter run
Gregory Thompson – first in the 300-meter hurdles; second in the triple jump; fourth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump
The 4×800 meter medley team won first, the 4×400 meter medley team won second, the 1,600-meter sprint medley team won fourth and the 4×100 medley team won fifth.
Softball
Ramstein wins first
The Lady Royals won their third straight Division 1 European Softball championship Saturday at Ramstein American High School after defeating their archrival Lakenheath 8-3 with an exciting late-inning comeback. They were down 3-2 in the top of the seventh when hits by Jessica Apodaca and Kayla Havens propelled the team to a six-run inning and gave them the lead for good. J. Apodaca struck out seven and gave up only six hits.
Victoria Apodaca, J. Apodaca, Mara Groom and Theresa Brooks were named to the All-tournament team.
Kaiserslautern takes third
The Lady Raiders ended their season 10-10 after a third place win. They played six games in three days. On day one, they beat Mannheim 17-2 and lost to Heidelberg 6-5.
On day two, they lost to Patch in a pitchers’ duel 2-0 and beat Würzburg 10-7 to earn a spot to the semifinals. In the semis, they lost to Ramstein 10-0 but beat Patch again, 5-0, to win third place.
Kili Smith was named to the All-tournament team.
Girls’ soccer
Ramstein wins first
The Lady Royals went 11-0 for the season and took the Division 1 title from four-time champion Heidelberg during the tournament held at RAHS May 18 to 20. In pool play, the Royals beat Wiesbaden 2-0 and the International School of Brussels 3-1 May 18 to earn the No. 1 seed. In the May 19 semifinal game, they faced K-Town and won 1-0. In the final, Heidelberg proved tough competition, but the Royals met the challenge with a 2-1 victory. They capitalized early with a goal by Jennie Rindfleisch within the first two minutes of the game, however, the score remained tied through the first 10-minute overtime.
Melissa Hirzel, who was named most valuable player, sealed the championship in the second overtime with a penalty kick.
Hirzel, Katee Norris, Rebecca Tenuta and Mari Shakir were named to the All-tournament team.
Kaiserslautern takes fourth
The Lady Raiders lost in pool play May 18 to Heidelberg, 1-0, and then beat Lakenheath 2-0. In the semifinals, K-Town lost to undefeated Ramstein in a close 1-0 game May 19.
Allyson Bunch, Paris Cervantes and Anna Hrushka were named to the All-tournament team.
Boys’ soccer
Ramstein wins first
The Royals nabbed their first European championship since 1996 after a 2-0 victory over Lakenheath May 20. In the semifinals, the Royals beat Wiesbaden 2-1 and Lakenheath knocked out eight-time defending champion Heidelberg. In the finals, Tommy Appel-Schumacher scored a header off Adam Rasmussen to take the lead in the first half. Rasmussen followed with his own goal after knocking in the rebound of his own penalty kick in the second half. Goalie Matt Luthman had several saves to aid the shutout on the home field.
Appel-Schumacher, Marcus Rodrigues and Rasmussen were named to the All-tournament team.
Kaiserslautern takes seventh
The Raiders were eliminated from the Division 1 tournament after suffering three losses. They lost to Würzburg, 4-0, Ramstein, 7-0 and Lakenheath, 6-0.
Baseball
The K-Town boys’ baseball team won the European championship Sunday. The team won both games against Vilseck, 8-1 and 14-5.
