Heroes don’t always wear tights and capes. Some wear battle dress
uniforms and flight suits. And there are a lot of them in the Air Force
fighting the Global War on Terrorism every day – saving lives and
performing valiant acts. These Airmen raise the bar and provide
inspiration for others to achieve greater heights. Airman magazine
wants to tell their stories – what makes them special – in its next
issue.
Are you a hero or do you know one? Send us your story in 400 words or
less, a photo of yourself in uniform, and a copy of the medal citation
or letter of appreciation to confirm the event/action occurred. Airman
staff will collect all submissions and contact the top “heroes” for
additional information.
E-mail editor@afnews.af.mil with the subject line “Airmen heroes,” or
mail it to Airman, attn: Airmen heroes, 203 Norton St., San Antonio,
Texas, 78226-1848. All submissions must be received by Oct. 31 for
consideration.
Wingman Days on the way
The 435th Air Base Wing is holding a Wingman Day Oct. 27, and the 86th
Airlift Wing will hold one Nov. 9. The objective of Wingman Day is to
strengthen unit morale and welfare by devoting time to building
relationships between co-workers, examining organizational strengths
and vulnerabilities and planning for future Wingman Day activities.
According to Lt. Gen. Roger A. Brady, deputy chief of staff, manpower
and personnel, the Wingman Day concept started in 2004 in order to
reinvigorate Air Force units and communities by celebrating Wingman
culture.
Wingman concept principles include:
• Culture of responsible choices
• Responsible drinking behavior
• Safe practices at home, at work, and on vacation
• Effective suicide prevention, sexual assault response and prevention and domestic violence intervention and prevention
• Responsible decision-making and behavior
