Vacationers traveling during summer might want to know about national holidays in the countries they are going to. The German automobile club, ADAC, lists holidays from several European countries:
Austria: Aug. 15; Oct. 26; Nov. 1; Dec. 8
Bulgaria: Sept. 27; Nov. 1, 11 and 15
Croatia: Oct. 8; Nov. 1
Czech Republic: Sept. 28; Oct. 28; Nov. 17; Dec. 24
France: Aug. 15; Nov. 1 and 11
Great Britain: Aug. 30 (not in Scotland) Aug. 2; Nov. 30 (only in Scotland)
Greece: Aug. 15; Oct. 28
Hungary: Aug. 20; Oct. 23; Nov. 1
Ireland: Oct. 25; Dec. 27 and 28
Italy: Aug. 15; Nov. 1; Dec. 8
Luxembourg: Aug. 15; Nov. 1
Poland: Aug. 15; Nov. 1 and 11
Portugal: Aug. 15; Oct. 5; Nov. 1; Dec. 1 and 8

In Germany, the states of Bavaria and Saarland observe a holiday Aug. 15. The former east-German states have a holiday Oct. 31, and Nov. 1 is a religious holiday in Baden-Würrtemberg, Bavaria, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland. Saxony is the only state still observing day of repentance Nov. 18.
