Are you an ice skater or do you like to enjoy family outings at the skating rink? Kaiserslautern opens its mobile ice-skating rink Friday, Nov. 22, in the Kaiserslautern Gartenschau event hall. The ice-skating rink will be open until Feb. 16, 2020. Statistics showed more than 50,000 visitors enjoyed the rink during last season.
Joachim Faerber, deputy mayor of Kaiserslautern, will officially open the event at 6 p.m., Nov. 22. The sports club TG Worms Eis“witt”chen will show a hot performance on ice. At 7 p.m., the 800 square meter ice-skating rink will open to all skaters, following the official event, for a reduced price of 2 euros.
The mascots of the local radio station, RPR1 Bear and Nils Nager, of the Rheinpfalz newspaper will welcome younger visitors.
Admission is 2.50 euros for children and 3.50 euros for adults.
Daily skating hours are 9 a.m. to noon; 1 to 3 p.m.; 4 to 6 p.m.; and 7 to 9 p.m. On Friday and Saturday nights, the ice-skating rink is open until 10 p.m.
The city of Kaiserslautern will lure visitors with a diversified program throughout the season.
On Dec. 6, when Germans observe “Nikolaustag,” or “Santa Claus Day,” Santa will appear on ice to pass out gifts to the children.
Inexperienced skaters under the age of 14 can work with a licensed instructor. The rink also offers training aids disguised as penguins, for a fee of 2 euros.
To warm up cold fingers and feet, watch ice-skaters, or just take a break and have a snack, visitors can relax in the restaurant next to the ice surface.
School classes who are interested in taking a field trip or a sports lesson on the rink can register and coordinate times by calling 0631-710-0765.
Children can also celebrate birthday parties on the rink with the restaurant offering kids’ menus.
Visitors who don’t own ice skates, can rent them for 3.50 euros, at the rink’s rental store.
