***image1***Kaiserslautern starts its skate night season Tuesday. Inline-skaters have the chance to skate on car-free routes from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
The event begins with an entertaining program at 7 p.m. on the Alte Theaterplatz (the parking lot next to Karstadt department store). Radio station RPR1 provides a musical program and tips for skaters. Those who don’t feel safe enough on their skates can take part in a training session with the local skating association at 6 p.m. Certified instructors show them some special techniques.
Warm up starts at 8 p.m. This warm up route goes from the parking lot around Fruchthalle and back. The skate night offers a route for beginners in the east and one for advanced skaters in the west. The beginners’ route is flat and 11 kilometers long. It goes from Fruchthallstrasse to Altenwoog-strasse, Mannheimer Strasse, Mainzer Strasse, and back on Ludwigstrasse and Maxstrasse. The advanced route is hilly and 15 kilometers long. It takes skaters on Pariser Strasse to Königstrasse, Brandenburger Strasse and Hohenecker Strasse, then onto Burgherrenstrasse to Erfenbacher Tal (B270) and downhill back to Pariser Strasse into Fruchthall-strasse.
More skate nights are scheduled for Aug. 2, 16 and 30.
