The running division of the sports club TSG 1861 Kaiserslautern will sponsor the 36th Half Marathon Run March 26 in Kaiserslautern.
The 13.1-mile course is free of traffic and leads through the scenic surroundings of Kaiserslautern.
“The course is fast with slight differences in height, all runners can participate,” said Boris Dujmovic, deputy division chief of the running division. “Beginners, who just want to complete the course, or advanced long-distance runners, who like to beat their personal best time.”
Start and finish area will be the Bertha-von-Suttner School, Schulzentrum Sued, Im Stadtwald, 67663 Kaiserslautern. Follow the signs reading “Stadion” and “Halbmarathon.”
Start will be at 9:30 a.m.; finish will be around noon.
Participants may register between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at the school lobby or online in advance at http://my4.raceresult.com/66244/registration?lang=en. Online registrations will end March 22. Registration fee is €12, which should be paid the morning of the event.
“Along the route we have three catering areas providing water or tea,” Dujmovic said. “Food and beverages will be served in the finishing area.”
There will be prizes for the overall female and male winner; for each age group, male and female; for the fastest team, male and female; and for the three biggest starter groups. An extra prize will be awarded to the new course record runner, male and female.
The award ceremony will take place 1 p.m. near the registration office at the school.
Participants will be able to change and take showers in the school’s gym.
“Last year, 358 participants reached the finish line. About 100 runners were Americans,” Dujmovic said.
The fastest male runner, Thomas Dehaut from the Landstuhl Running Association ran a time of 1:20:03 hours, and the fastest female, Josefa Matheis from the Running Club Eisenberg, ran 1:29:16 hours.
This year, organizers again expect a total of 400 to 450 runners.
“We are looking forward to welcoming many runners. We hope they will be successful and have lots of fun,” Dujmovic said.
