Math Counts is a national coaching and competition program under leadership of the National Society of Professional Engineers designed to stimulate sixth- through eighth-grade students’ interest and achievement in mathematics.
Teachers and volunteers coach student mathletes beginning each fall and continuing through the year. Participating schools select four students to compete as teams and individuals in chapter meets that were held in February. The winning teams from each chapter contest advanced to the DODDS State Competition.

The National Math Counts Competition will be held between May 5 and 9 in Washington, D.C., where 224 students from 56 states and territories will compete for top middle school mathlete in the U.S.

DODDS is recognized as a state entity and will compete representing all DOD schools.

The 2011 DODDS team is composed of the four highest scoring individuals in DODDS: Alex Thiebes (SHAPE Middle/High School), Alexander Robertson (Aviano Middle/High School), Wolfgang Wachtel (Ramstein Middle School) and Jonas Knudsen (Osan American Middle School). Mark Krevalis (Ramstein Middle School) will coach the DODDS team at the national competition.
