KMC youth hits one outta the park


***image1***Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig presented Maddie Byrd, a Ramstein youth, with the Major League Ball STAR award at game three of the World Series in Denver Colo. Maddie, 15, is the daughter of Lt. Col. Phil Byrd and Tammie Byrd.

Maddison (Maddie) Byrd was announced as the first ever national winner for the Major League Baseball S.T.A.R. − Sportsmanship, Team Spirit, Achievement and Responsibility − Award. Maddie, who attends Ramstein American High School, represented Ramstein Youth Programs, United States Air Force and military youth from around the world. Maddie learned about her award in a phone call from Tom Brasell, vice president of Major League Baseball, and Frank Sanchez, of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, during an office visit with Col. Earl Matthews, 435th Air Base Wing commander. Maddie was the MLB S.T.A.R.

Award overseas region winner, and attended the recent MLB All Star Game in San Francisco, CA.  She was selected from thousands of nominees nationwide as best exemplifying the values of Sportsmanship, Team Spirit, Achievement and Responsibility.
