Lake fest offers helicopter rides, music, fireworks

The 24th lake fest at Lake Ohmbachsee takes place today through Sunday. For three days, the lake will turn into a big natural stage with lights, music and shows. Mostly regional bands will entertain visitors on three stages put up around Ohmbachsee.

With gun salutes and the tapping of the first keg of beer by the mayor of Schönenberg-Kübelberg, Karl-Heinz Schoon, the fest officially opens at 6 p.m. today. The bands, Chock-A-Block and Purple Haze, will present rock and pop. The Habachtaler will play German folk and brass music. The evening entertainment will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 1 a.m. the following morning.

From 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Panama will present classic and modern rock songs, Stainless will play cover songs by AC/DC, Deep Purple and others, and the Oberforstband will entertain the audience with rock and folk music.

The night program is provided by the Revengers, DownUnder and Changes. They will play until 1 a.m. Sunday.Sunday, the musical program will start at 11 a.m. with Cantina presenting swing, pop ballads and Latin American music; Earl Grey with pop music; and the Brücken Music Association.

From 2 to 6 p.m., Crime & Passion and Acoustical Jam will present a diversified repertoire. At night, performing bands are Elliot and Undercover with party rock, and Remax with classic Italian music and cover songs by Joe Cocker, Bryan Adams and Stevie Wonder.

The highlight of Saturday night is at 10:45 p.m. when the lake will be set on flames. At 10:45 p.m. Sunday, visitors can admire a fireworks display. A children’s program with a magician, clown, games, jumping castle, face painting, swing carts and bobby carts will start at noon Sunday.

Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m., helicopter flights will be offered for €35 per person. In the late afternoon of Saturday and Sunday, three winners will be able to ride in a hot air balloon.

Stands and booths offer Palatinate and international food specialties.
The daily admission ticket is €4. Children under 15 are admitted free. The ticket price for three days is €7.50.

Omhbach Lake is northwest of Bruchmühlbach-Miesau, between Elschbach and Schönenberg-Kübelberg. With a surface of 15 hectares, it’s the biggest lake in the Westpfalz area. There is a campground and the possibility to fish, sail, surf and rent little boats.
