Lautern starts to bloom

Kaiserslautern says farewell to winter and welcomes spring Saturday and Sunday. The streets in the center of town are turning into a colorful spring world. The advertising association “Kaiser in Lautern” will sponsor “Lautern starts to bloom” to celebrate the beginning of spring 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Stores open Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

The annual event “Lautern starts to bloom,” highlights the beginning of spring with a variety of activities, stage performances, arts and crafts, and food specialties in the center of town.

“’Lautern starts to bloom’” is a recognized and popular event for several thousand visitors,” said Alexander Hess, chief of the Kaiserslautern advertising association.  The advertising association together with the city of Kaiserlautern are promoting this event to underline the quality of life in the center of town and is inviting the public to come out and explore the stores and the food specialties.  Members of the association will present a diversified program to entertain customers with attractions, such as permanent hair removal, anti-aging and body-forming.  The mascot of “Die Rheinpfalz” newspaper, Nils Nager, is inviting children to take part in crafts.

The popular free train “Bimmelbahn” is offering tours through the center of town starting and ending on Riesenstrasse.  Activities for children include an air ballon artist, face painting, miniature golf, and a bounce castle.  You can also watch experiments demonstrating physics, chemistry and mathematics. Children are offered to partake in crafting.  On Marktstrasse you are invited to arts and crafts; the FCK mascot “Betzi” is welcoming spring and the Lautrer Easter bunny will surprise children with sweets.

On Fackelstrasse, the RPR1 radio station will have a stage set up and their mascot, the RPR1 Bear, will welcome the young guests and a fairy tale merry-go-round will offer rides.

In Kerststrasse an Italian market is set up, “The art of the Italian Taste” today through Sunday.  Italian vendors will present their country and regional delicacies.  Some of the rich offerings are wild boar ham from Tuscany, olives and oil from Apulia, and sweets from Sicily. Of course the world’s famous parmesan cheese “Parmigiano Reggiano” cannot be missed.

Various bands and walking acts will provide entertainment in the streets.

On Saturday, farmers will sell their products at the vegetable and fruit market on Stiftsplatz until 1.30 p.m., next to it you’ll find the Easter market, and Sunday local car dealers exhibit their new arrivals of different brands.
