Lichtenberg Castle near Kusel will be the stage for Castle Spring from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Castle Spring will feature a flower and herb market, special exhibitions, an open house of the youth hostel on the castle grounds, children’s entertainment, eating and drinking, and musical entertainment.
The flower and herb market will take place in the lower castle where visitors can find plants for balconies and flowerbeds.
Guided tours of the herb market will start at 11 a.m., 2 and 4 p.m. At 1 p.m., there will be guided hikes to help visitors identify the local wild herbs. Also at this time, numerous vendors will present a wide range of merchandise in relation to herbs: books, schnapps, liquor, teas, spices, oil, vinegar, mustard and marmalade.
Shoppers can also purchase jewlery, ceramics and other decorative items.
Members of the Culinary County Road will serve regional food specialties.
The U.S. Army Europe’s Dixieland Band will perform at 10:30 a.m. and the county’s music school will begin playing at 1 p.m.
Sunday is also International Museum Day throughout Germany. The Primeval World Museum Geoskop and the Zehntscheune, both located on the castle grounds, will offer special exhibitions and guided tours with a free entrance fee. Geoskop will display “Sharks and Rays,” and Zehntscheune will present “Wildcats.”
The English-guided tour of the Geoskop is scheduled at 2 p.m.; the tour of the musician’s museum in Zehntscheune will start at 1 p.m.
A guided tour of Lichtenberg Castle in English will begin at 2 p.m.
The castle’s youth hostel will have an open house with tours at 11 a.m., 1 and 2:30 p.m. to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Visitors can enjoy ice cream and barbecue specialties.
