After Monday all Ramstein domain users will be migrating to Smart Card Log-on. SCL requires users to log-on to the network using their CAC and a PIN number instead of the traditional username and password.
To log in, stick your card in and enter your PIN. To lock your computer, remove the CAC from its reader. Only users with CAC cards will be migrated. Local nationals, contractors, and others needing CAC cards have until July 31 before they must also use SCL.
Unfortunately, SCL is not compatible with some network applications such as webmail or virtual private networks. If users have a mission need for webmail or other incompatible programs they should get with their CSA to file an exemption.
Exemptions must be approved by a supervisor who is at least a flight commander (or equivalent) and then submitted to the NCC. They take a few days to process and then users will need to get a new password before they can return to logging in via username.
Exemptions are only valid until July 31. If anyone has forgotten their PIN, the 435th Communications Squadron is presently operating PIN reset stations at the MPF during customer service hours.
So what to remember when you show up to work Tuesday? If you are not exempted and have a CAC, log in to your computer using your CAC and your 6-8 digit pin. (Courtesy of the 435th CS)
