On Jan. 25, Ramstein Library held a party with the Exceptional Family Member Program to celebrate the opening of the program “Tales to Tails” and to introduce new special needs resources.
Fun was had by all at this feel-good event consisting of snacks, giveaways and story time.
Pedro, a 9-year old therapy dog, was the star of the show, lapping up the attention as children swarmed around for a chance to stroke him.
“Pedro has been visiting schools, hospitals and libraries since 2006,” said Judy Brangwin, owner of the lovable golden retriever. “He has undergone special training and testing, but should not be confused for a service dog.”
Pedro offers comfort and ease to children who struggle with reading.
“Most children are anxious reading to an adult, so it’s perfect,” said Karen Lakin, public service library technician at the Ramstein Library.
Fifteen-minute time slots for children to read to Pedro will be available for sign-up.
“Tales to Tails” will occur on the first Tuesday of each month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. until June. For details, call the Ramstein Library at 06371-47-6667/7409.
New special needs resources for families are now available at the Ramstein Library.
All age groups are catered to, with books ranging from picture books to high school level reading material to more in-depth information for adults.
“The event was fantastic. It was really great,” said Nancy Hoehn, EFMP coordinator.
The noticeably good turnout led to a successful afternoon for children and adults alike.
