***image1***A medieval castle fest will take place Saturday and Sunday at Nanstein Castle in Landstuhl. The event will include a medieval market, a knights’ and lansquenets’ camp and a stage.
The medieval market presents old craftsmanship and vendors’ activities. Silver smiths, altar carvers, stone masons, turners, glass blowers, candle makers, basket makers, weavers, spinners and others show off their skills and some of them offer their hand-crafted items for sale.
Historic groups dressed in medieval costumes will show how people in the Middle Ages used to live and knights will demonstrate former weapons and how they used to fight.
Two stages will be put up in the castle yard and outside the castle. Music groups, jugglers and actors will perform.
Children can enjoy a ride on a man-drawn merry-go-round and take part in activity games, such as lifting sandstone balls and archery.
Fourteen stands will offer culinary specialties, including a rotisserie, waffle bakery, sugar bakery, oriental tea house and taverns.
A jailor waiting for visitors in a cold dungeon will revive the horrors of the Middle Ages by presenting a variety of utensils that were used for prisoners.
Saturday night, the area will be lit with torches, fire pots and lanterns. A show with a fire-eater will be on stage.
The fest starts at 11 a.m. both days. It closes at 11 p.m. Saturday and at 8 p.m. Sunday. Daily tickets cost €6 for adults and €2 for students. Children shorter than a sword are admitted free. The ticket for two days is €10 for adults and €5 for students. Visitors in medieval costumes get a discount.
Shuttle buses will take visitors from P+R parking lots to the castle from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. The P+R lots are located near the swimming pool, in Von-Richthofen-Strasse, in Gewerbegebiet West and near Reha-Zentrum.
