The 21st Theater Support Command’s Mortuary Affairs building on Landstuhl Regional Medical Center recently opened a new 2,000-square-foot addition.
“More important and valuable than the improved working space and offices, the addition allows Mortuary Affairs personnel to bring remains inside the building screened from public view,” said Mark Baldwin, U.S. Memorial Affairs Activity, Europe, mortuary specialist.
“It is crucial to us that we are able to treat the remains and the families with the utmost respect and dignity,” he said.
Commanding General of the 21st TSC, Maj. Gen. Bennie E. Williams was on hand during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Terms like, ‘duty, honor, country, dignity, respect and faith in our cause,’ come to mind when I think about this facility,” he said.
Mortuary Affairs is part of the mission of the U.S. Army Memorial Affairs Activity, Europe, which provides theater-wide mortuary support to the European Command and the Central Command regions by operating mortuaries in LRMC and Vicenza, Italy.
