Museum Day in Winnweiler – history, craftsmanship, culture


***image1***The International Day of Museums is observed Sunday. The union community of Winnweiler has several museums with an emphasis on the history of the region, craftsmanship, culture and early settlement.

The Celtic village in Steinbach, the Jewish museum of the North Palatinate in Winnweiler, the Palatinate mining museum in Imsbach, the broadcasting museum in Münchweiler, the historic smithy in Langmeil and the village museum “Leo’s Tenne” in  Schweisweiler, all display in a very special and detailed way the cultural treasures of the region.

Sunday, from 2 to 8 p.m., visitors can experience an entertaining and interesting program with workshops, live demonstrations and special exhibitions.

In Leo’s Tenne, people can learn how to figure out their body mass index with ***image3***historic scales. The museum in Winnweiler offers a view into Jewish living and traditions and asks children to participate in a rally. The broadcasting museum in Münchweiler has an exhibition about the French broadcasting history and serves French cheese, bread and red wine. The historic smithy in Langmeil presents smithing, and little visitors get handcrafted mice as souvenirs.

During the collecting of minerals and the exploring of the mines, visitors track the lives of former miners. The Celtic village offers Celtic history, jewelry and tattoo painting and is asking people to actively get involved.

Guided tours are available in each of the museums.

***image2***With the combination admission ticket, which costs €4 for adults and €2 for

children, visitors can tour all museums and take part in a raffle. The main prize is a certificate for a dinner for two in Klostermühle restaurant in Münchweiler/Alsenz.
