Two Army post offices close on Mondays, open on Saturdays
Postal hours of operation will change soon at three Army post offices in the KMC.

Post offices at Daenner and Landstuhl will now be closed on Mondays, but will open Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
“This is in response to a survey that was done by USAREUR and the Theater Operations Postal Director, which included our local commanders and garrison commander,” said 1st Lt. Mercedes Wenier, 1/147th Postal platoon leader. “Customers will now have more opportune times to mail their parcels. This is part of the transformation from military personnel to civilians in many of the Army post offices in the USAREUR footprint, and it’s also a move that’s related to the Global War on Terror.”
Commander 147th Adjutant General Company (Postal), Capt. Andrew W. Anderson, said the new hours will allow patrons to mail packages during the lunch hour and after work hours.
“This gives more of a useable time frame for people to send their packages, but the new hours only affect the post offices,” Captain Anderson said. “The mailrooms, where people pick up packages, will not have their hours changed by this new policy.”
The Army post offices affected by the new schedules fall under the umbrella of the 147th Postal Company. The remote APO site Miesau post office will be open for its usual two days a week, but with new hours from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Lieutenant Wenier has spent time in Europe and downrange overseeing numerous postal operations. She and Captain Anderson agreed that the effort put forth by today’s corps of postal workers has been consistently stable.
“Both downrange and here in Europe, our support is exceptional from both Soldiers and from civilian employees,” Lieutenant Wenier said. “We are able to deliver thousands of parcels in a timely manner, using varying means of transportation and equipment available. Overall, it’s a consistently outstanding performance by our staffs at the various APO locations.”
Additionally, as a troop morale endeavor, a Star Wars-themed post office drop box has been installed near the LRMC four-corners area. The box is a likeness of the R2D2 character from the George Lucas-produced Star Wars film series and will be in place at LRMC for about two months.
“We move these boxes from one USAREUR site to another and it’s fun for people to see this sort of thing,” Lieutenant Wenier said. “Star Wars is something that means many things to many people, and it’s been part of pop culture for quite a while.”
Also, the sale of a Star Wars postage stamp series has begun at the Landstuhl, Daenner and Miesau Army Post Offices in the KMC. Individual stamps or booklets will be available for purchase while the promotion continues.
