Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna, to NATO Headquarters for a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, focused on Russia’s continued military build-up, Jan. 10.
Calling Ukraine “a valued and long-standing partner” with the right to choose its own path, the Secretary General noted that today’s meeting marks “the start of an important week for European security,” which includes a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council on Jan. 12, bilateral talks between the United States and Russia, and a meeting of the OSCE.
Stoltenberg called the NATO-Ukraine Commission an opportunity to exchange assessments on the situation; to express Allies’ strong support for Ukraine; and to coordinate ahead of diplomatic engagements with Moscow.
